In my new grand sons library . They have this book in the public library in my home town, love it.When the Library Lights Go Out by Megan McDonald and Katherine Tillotson 40 pagesIt’s night time at the library. All the people have gone home, and it’s very, very quite. Well, except for Lion’s snoring.Rabbit can’t sleep; he wants to go an adventure! Lion won’t wake up. He digs deeper in puppet box, looking for Hermit Crab. He wants Hermit Crab to tell him a “get-sleepy story.” But he can’t find Hermit Crab.Rabbit looks all over the Library, but he can’t find Hermit Crab. He makes enough noise to wake up Lion. By now, Rabbit knows that Hermit Crab is G-O-N-E or L-O-S-T! Lion and Rabbit begin to explore the library in search of their friend.A cute little story, I was attracted to it because of Rabbit, who is just adorable, and I work in a library. I think it could have been a little deeper, therefore “When the Library Lights Go Out” receives 3 out of 5 stars in Julie’s world.A pair of stuffed animals go on an adventure in a library. The adventure while completely sensical is rather boring just really a collection of random events. There's nothing clever or exciting in this book. It's not a bad read exactly, but I wouldn't recommend it.I loved the illustrations, so I gave this poorly written story 2 stars instead of 1. The charming art cannot save the awkward sentences, agonizingly slow dialogue and choppy pacing of the story. It makes my stomach hurt to read this out loud, and I love reading books to my children. Not this cringe-worthy tale! Don't waste your money on this travesty. The library is closed so time for the animals to get up. Rabbit is not at all sleepy whereas Lion, snoring like a pig, just wants to be left alone. Where is Hermit Crab? Rabbit runs off looking for him. On his way he finds crayons to draw a picture of himself with, half eaten sandwiches and carrot sticks and a basketball.Lion, not appreciating all the noise tells Rabbit to be quiet. Rabbit is afraid that Hermit Crab is lost. Maybe he has been eaten by a hungry giant? Lion agrees to help find their friend so with a flashlight and picnic in hand off they go. Finding a map see a "park," "water" (mat) and a "bridge" (table). When the map rips in three places Lion gets creative and makes a boat, a sail and a captain's hat."Tick, tock, tick" Oh no, the giant's hearbeat! Will they ever find Hermit Crab? This is a delightful story for young children. In fact we all enjoyed it!We have loved this book from the very first time we read it several years ago. It's always fun for children to imagine what toys do when nobody is looking and this is such a lovely story about Lion and Rabbit.I highly recommend this book for young, imaginative readers.I bought this book for my daughter who met the illustrator as part of her Early Childhood Education classes. It's great!I checked this book out from the library because of the great illustrations hoping it would charm my children. The children showed no interest in the story and reading it anoyed and frustrated me.The dialog is so poorly done that I think it insults a two-year-old child--it did mine. Even the charming Rabbit couldn't turn this book into a winner in my little daughter's rabbit-loving heart."I did," rabbit said. "Oh," lion replied. "Did you see that?" rabbit asked. "See what?" lion replied. This is not a quote from the book but it IS how the book reads. It sounds like a second grader (maybe a first grader) wrote the dialog.Summary: This one isn't even worth risking a late charge on your library card because you forgot you had it at home and didn't return it on time.
